1959 · People's Republic of China vs Tibetan rebels

An armed uprising in Lhasa in March 1959 against Chinese rule, which was crushed by the People's Liberation Army and led the 14th Dalai Lama to flee into exile in India. Casualty estimates range from around 10,000 battle deaths to far higher tolls cited by Tibetan sources.
