1991 · Iraq (Saddam Hussein/Ba'athist government) vs Shia and Kurdish rebels

Mass Shia and Kurdish uprisings (the Sha'aban Intifada) against Saddam Hussein in March–April 1991 following the Gulf War ceasefire, which briefly seized most Iraqi provinces before being brutally crushed. Estimates of those killed in the suppression range from tens of thousands to well over 100,000.
