Battle of Ascalon

1099 · Crusaders (Kingdom of Jerusalem) vs Fatimid Caliphate

On 12 August 1099, shortly after capturing Jerusalem, a crusader army under Godfrey of Bouillon routed a numerically superior Fatimid relief army under vizier al-Afdal near Ascalon. Often considered the final action of the First Crusade, it secured the newly established Kingdom of Jerusalem.
