On 29 September 1364, the Anglo-Breton army of John de Montfort, with English troops under John Chandos, defeated and killed Charles of Blois near Auray, ending the War of the Breton Succession. The 1365 Treaty of Guérande recognised the Montfort line as dukes of Brittany.
