Fought 30 April 1863 during the Second French intervention in Mexico, the Battle of Camaron was a last stand by 65 French Foreign Legionnaires under Captain Jean Danjou against roughly 2,000-3,000 Mexican troops near Camaron de Tejeda. The near-total destruction of the detachment became the Legion's most celebrated feat of arms.
