1597 · Joseon (Korea) vs Japan (Toyotomi)
Night battle of 28 August 1597 in which a Japanese fleet destroyed nearly the entire Joseon navy under Won Gyun, who had replaced the disgraced Yi Sun-sin. It was Korea's only major naval defeat of the war.
