On 1 July 1097, the army of the First Crusade defeated the Seljuk Turks under Kilij Arslan I near Dorylaeum in Anatolia after Bohemond's vanguard was nearly overwhelmed before relief arrived. The victory opened the crusaders' route across Asia Minor toward Antioch.
