1592 · Joseon (Korea) vs Japan (Toyotomi)
On 14 August 1592 Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Joseon fleet, using the 'crane wing' formation, destroyed or captured most of a large Japanese fleet near Hansan Island, halting Japanese naval operations during the Imjin War.
