Battle of Jingxing

204 BCE · Han (Liu Bang) forces under Han Xin vs Kingdom of Zhao

The Han general Han Xin defeated the much larger Zhao army by deploying his troops with their backs to a river, leaving them no retreat, the famous 'fighting with one's back to the river' stratagem. The victory was a key step in Liu Bang's conquest of northern China during the Chu-Han Contention.
