On 17-18 October 1244, an Egyptian Ayyubid army reinforced by Khwarezmian mercenaries crushed the combined armies of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and its Ayyubid Syrian allies near La Forbie northeast of Gaza. The catastrophic defeat shattered crusader military strength in the Holy Land and helped prompt the Seventh Crusade.
