On 9 April 1241, a Mongol army defeated combined Polish and Moravian forces under Duke Henry II the Pious of Silesia at Legnickie Pole; Henry was killed. Together with the victory at Mohi two days later, it demonstrated Mongol dominance over the chivalry of Central Europe.
