1264 · Baronial rebels (Simon de Montfort) vs Royalists (Henry III)
On 14 May 1264, the baronial army of Simon de Montfort defeated King Henry III on the downs above Lewes in Sussex, a key battle of the Second Barons' War. The royalist defeat forced the Mise of Lewes, making de Montfort the effective ruler of England.
