From 8 to 11 February 1250, the Seventh Crusade under Louis IX of France clashed with Ayyubid forces at Mansurah in the Nile Delta. An initial crusader assault led by Robert of Artois was crushed; the failure, followed by disease and retreat, led to Louis IX's capture at Fariskur.
