A massive Han offensive of around 100,000 cavalry under Wei Qing and Huo Qubing struck deep beyond the Gobi Desert against the Xiongnu Chanyu's main forces. The campaign broke Xiongnu power on the northern frontier and removed the immediate threat to Han China for a generation.
