The Roman general Publius Ventidius Bassus defeated and killed the Parthian prince Pacorus I at Mount Gindarus in Syria, avenging the earlier Roman disaster at Carrhae. The victory drove the Parthians back across the Euphrates and stabilized Rome's eastern frontier.
