1213 · Crusaders (Simon de Montfort) vs Crown of Aragon and County of Toulouse
On 12 September 1213, a small crusader force under Simon de Montfort defeated a much larger allied army under King Peter II of Aragon and Count Raymond VI of Toulouse near Muret. Peter II was killed; the outcome ended Aragonese influence in Languedoc and advanced French royal control during the Albigensian Crusade.
