On 27 November 1382, the French royal army of Charles VI defeated the Flemish urban militia under Philip van Artevelde on the Goudberg near Westrozebeke; Artevelde was killed. The victory crushed the Ghent-led Flemish revolt and reasserted French and comital authority in Flanders.
