1268 · Angevins (Charles of Anjou) vs Hohenstaufen supporters (Conradin)
On 23 August 1268, Charles of Anjou defeated the Ghibelline army of the young Hohenstaufen claimant Conradin on the Palentine plains near Tagliacozzo. Conradin's subsequent capture and execution ended Hohenstaufen power in Italy and secured Angevin rule over Sicily and the south.
