On 25-26 June 1876, combined Lakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho forces annihilated five companies of the U.S. 7th Cavalry under George Armstrong Custer along the Little Bighorn River, the most famous Native American victory of the Plains wars (Custer's Last Stand).
