Roman consuls Livius Salinator and Claudius Nero destroyed the Carthaginian army of Hasdrubal Barca, Hannibal's brother, before it could reinforce him in southern Italy. Hasdrubal was killed and the strategic balance of the Second Punic War shifted decisively to Rome.
