Battle of Visby

1361 · Kingdom of Denmark vs Gotland yeomen militia

On 27 July 1361, the invading army of King Valdemar IV of Denmark defeated a poorly equipped Gotland peasant militia outside the walls of Visby. The mass graves later excavated at Korsbetningen, with armoured skeletons, make it one of the best-documented medieval battlefields archaeologically.
