On 5 June 1288, Duke John I of Brabant decisively defeated the Archbishop of Cologne and the Count of Luxembourg near Worringen, the climactic battle of the War of the Limburg Succession. The victory added Limburg to Brabant and weakened the archbishop's temporal power over Cologne.
