On 26 August 1278, Rudolf I of Habsburg, allied with King Ladislaus IV of Hungary, defeated and killed King Ottokar II of Bohemia in one of the largest cavalry battles of medieval Central Europe. The outcome ended Přemyslid expansion and launched the rise of the House of Habsburg in Austria.
