The Younghusband Expedition (1903-04) was a British Indian invasion of Tibet aimed at countering perceived Russian influence and forcing trade terms. British forces with modern weapons inflicted heavy losses on Tibetan defenders (notably the Chumik Shenko massacre) and occupied Lhasa, compelling the Treaty of Lhasa.
