A 1965–1976 leftist insurgency in Oman's Dhofar region against the Al Bu Said sultanate and British presence, backed by South Yemen and waged by the Dhofar Liberation Front and later the Marxist PFLOAG. British, Iranian and Jordanian support helped the sultanate defeat it by 1976.
