A war (1828-29) between Gran Colombia and Peru over disputed border territories and Guayaquil following the South American wars of independence. Antonio Jose de Sucre's victory at the Battle of Tarqui (27 February 1829) forced a Peruvian retreat and the Treaty of Giron.
