1818 – 1840 · Ngāpuhi and musket-armed iwi vs Other Māori iwi
A series of as many as 3,000 intertribal Māori battles fought across New Zealand as iwi acquired European muskets, dramatically escalating the lethality of warfare and reshaping tribal boundaries. The conflicts caused mass casualties, enslavement, and migration before tapering off around 1840.
