What happened
Ottoman forces, particularly under Murad I and Mehmed II, systematically conquered Balkan territories. Major victories at Maritza (1365) and Kosovo (1389) broke Balkan resistance. By the 15th century, Ottoman dominance over the Balkans was complete. The conquest displaced Christian populations and Islamicized the region.

Ottoman Balkan conquest established Ottoman European power and presaged the empire's eastward expansion. The conquest created the Ottoman-Christian border that persisted for centuries.
