What happened
Pepi II, Egypt's longest-reigning pharaoh (possibly 64 years), dispatched military expeditions into Nubia to secure gold, ivory, and incense trade routes. Nubian populations resisted Egyptian control intermittently. Egyptian military campaigns established trading posts and security fortifications in Nubian territories. The campaigns demonstrated Egyptian Old Kingdom military capability.
