The Ragamuffin War (Guerra dos Farrapos), 1835-1845, was a republican secessionist uprising in southern Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul, led by Bento Goncalves, that proclaimed the Riograndense Republic. The decade-long conflict ended with the Treaty of Ponche Verde reintegrating the province.
