Seleucus I Nicator crossed the Indus into the former eastern satrapies of Alexander's empire and confronted Chandragupta Maurya. The conflict ended in a treaty ceding the Indus Valley and adjoining regions to the Mauryas in exchange for 500 war elephants and sealed by a marriage alliance.
