Siege of Edessa (1144)

1144 · County of Edessa (Crusaders) vs Zengid Emirate (Mosul/Aleppo)

From 28 November to 24 December 1144, the atabeg Imad al-Din Zengi besieged and captured Edessa, capital of the first crusader state. Its fall shocked Latin Christendom and became the immediate catalyst for the Second Crusade.
