The 1865 Russian capture of Tashkent (9 May-17 June 1865) was a decisive episode in the Russian conquest of Central Asia, defeating the Khanate of Kokand. The Kokandi leader Alimqul was killed, and Russia annexed the city, opening the way to the conquest of Bukhara.
