Siege of Tuyen Quang

1884 – 1885 · France vs China (Yunnan Army and Black Flag Army)

A four-month siege (November 1884-March 1885) during the Sino-French War in which a French garrison of 619 men, including French Foreign Legion companies, held the post of Tuyen Quang against vastly larger Chinese Yunnan Army and Black Flag forces until relieved. It became a celebrated Legion epic.
