On 4 November 1791, a Native confederacy under Little Turtle and Blue Jacket destroyed the army of General Arthur St. Clair near the Wabash River, inflicting the worst defeat ever suffered by the U.S. Army at the hands of Native Americans and prompting the reforms that produced Wayne's legion.
