What happened
The Deccan sultanates (Ahmadnagar, Bijapur, Golconda) allied against Vijayanagara in 1565. The alliance decisively defeated Vijayanagara forces at Talikota. The victory destroyed Vijayanagara military dominance.
Why it mattered
Talikota ended Vijayanagara as a major power. The victory enabled Islamic sultanate dominance in South India.
