1897 – 1898 · British India vs Afridi and Orakzai tribes
An 1897-98 British Indian frontier expedition against the Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribes of Tirah, mounted after the tribes seized the Khyber Pass. A force of nearly 35,000 under Sir William Lockhart fought a difficult mountain campaign.
