Tongan Civil War

1799 – 1852 · Tuʻi Kanokupolu and rival chiefly lines vs Tāufaʻāhau (George Tupou I) and allies

A roughly fifty-year period of succession warfare that began with the murder of the Tuʻi Kanokupolu Tukuʻaho in 1799 and was worsened by the introduction of firearms. The wars ended with the triumph of Tāufaʻāhau, who unified Tonga and ruled as King George Tupou I from 1845.
