Trung Sisters' Revolt

40 CE – 43 CE · Han Dynasty vs Trung Dynasty

Vietnamese noble sisters led the first recorded anti-Chinese rebellion (40-43 CE).

Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, daughters of a Vietnamese noble family, raised revolt against Han Dynasty rule in 40 CE. Grievances centered on Chinese taxation and expansion into Vietnamese elite privileges. The sisters mobilized support and expelled Chinese officials, establishing independent Vietnamese state. Han General Ma Yuan defeated them decisively in 43 CE.

The Trung Sisters' rebellion established the template for Vietnamese anti-Chinese resistance. They became iconic figures in Vietnamese nationalism.
